I’ve decided to turn on ads for the website. It’s mostly an experiment to see if I can motivate myself to work on this Shinsengumi fansite with some regularity and get familiar with how things are done on the web these days. I do still love the Shinsengumi and now that we’ve been an approved site on ads, maybe that’s the kick I need to carve out time in my schedule to commit to this old love.
That said, while I try to work out my schedule I’ll just quickly draw attention to a few items.
Rurouni Kenshin: The Final / The Beginning
Unless you’ve been living under a rock (which I have been known to do from time to time), you should know that Rurouni Kenshin released its last film “The Beginning” last summer, which is an adaptation of the “Tsuioku-hen” or “Remembrance Arc” of the manga. It doesn’t quite reach the heights of the animated OVA Trust and Betrayal but it has gotten great reviews and if live action is your thing and you are an RK fan then don’t miss this. See Okita-san above? (Yeah! He’s -really- good.) There is also the movie “The Final” that was released last April which is an original story based on Jinchu Arc involving Enishi Yukishiro and I recommend watching “The Beginning” first before “The Final”, because these two are enjoyed as one movie in this logical order. These set of two movies bring the 10 year live action films by Director Keishi Ohtomo to a close.
Another thing to draw your attention to is the Hokkaido manga. The manga has now shifted focus from Kenshingumi to Saitou, Nagakura and Eiji which basically turns these couple new chapters as very Shinsengumi-centric. I mean if we have the unlovable Abe Juuro in there, you know it’s going to be a story about the Shinsengumi. You’ll get to see glimpses of the previous commanders and the infamous Abura-no-koji incident. Unfortunately Viz / Shonen Jump is not publishing the manga state side but a fan is currently doing a fan translation. Visit DTNinja481’s wix site to see the latest chapters of the Hokkaido Arc here.

No international release date yet so we may not see this movie in the west.
